Sempra is Relocating in Downtown San Diego

If you live in downtown San Diego or even gone to watch the Padres play, you might have seen a couple cranes in the air by 7th & Island and wondered…what’s being built here?  Well, it’s not going to be downtown residential complex, it’s going to be the home of the new Sempra headquarters.

Sempra will be moving from it’s current location in Cortez Hill, 1st and Ash, to the Ballpark District across from Parkloft & The Mark.  Sempra has signed a 25 year lease with Cisterra Development for the whole new 16 story development that will have 300,000 sqft of office space.  Sempra currently has around 700 employees working in their current office and I’m sure they are all excited for the new move in 2015.

This new development is going to cost around $120 Million to develop and once complete, they may look into selling this complex to another investor?  Cisterra developed DiamondView Offices, which is located across the street, and ended up selling once completed.  The old 347,000 sqft office, said the owner Sandor Shapery, might be offered to house the new city hall or lease to new offices or even turn the top floors to residential properties.
