Downtown San Diego Chargers Stadium

chargersLet’s talk Chargers football. Well, they got beat yesterday. Bummer!!

But let’s talk about the Chargers Stadium and what’s going to happen with the Chargers here in San Diego. Let’s be real, the Chargers want a new Stadium. They backed a proposal in 2014 to build a new stadium in downtown San Diego with Convention Center space included. I’m not sure why this didn’t go through but it just didn’t.

Well, Briggs is trying to get the new Chargers stadium downtown along with the convention center expansion.

At one point, the convention center was going to expand out towards the bay and would cost roughly $549 million. The new Chargers stadium at Qualcom would cost $1.2 billion. If the stadium is built downtown along with the expansion of the convention center, it would cost $1.42 billion which is $329 million less than if they were to build both separate.

In order to do so, hotel tax would increase from 12.5 to 15.5%. This would cover half the football stadium.

All I have to say is: Let’s keep the Chargers in San Diego!!  If so, real estate in Downtown San Diego around the stadium would be hugely impacted.
