New Fees for Downtown San Diego Builders

New Builder Fees in Downtown San Diego

Downtown San Diego Builder Fees towards Public Facilities are now going to be higher than they once were.  With a 5-4 vote at City Hall on Tuesday, a 78 % increase was approved.  That’s about $8k per unit.  This money will go towards building 2 new fire stations.  One will be located across Pacific Hwy from the Administrative building and another one will be located by the Police station along Broadway.   The current fire station in East Village will be replaced and 2 more existing stations will be expanded.  Just the cost of these fire stations will be around $90mil.

This increase of fees won’t take affect until after a 10-month moratorium period. Many people are looking to increase the # of public parks and have more open space for residences to use and enjoy.   Downtown San Diego’s population is expected to more than double to over 90,000 by 2030 and it’s time to start planning for this growth.  As you drive around downtown, you can see this growth happening in front of you.  There are more cranes in sky and you see this new development happening all around the city.
