New Parking Meters Coming to Downtown San Diego

parking meters downtown san diegoParking meters! What can I say? Who likes them? You can never find any quarters to feed the meters and who carries changes these days anyways? I know I rarely do. Well, the current parking meters are going to be swapped out with updated meters that will make life a lot easier; in regards to parking meters of course. These new parking meters will allow you to use your Visa or Mastercard for payment. This means you don’t need to ask all the stores around you for change and feel like an idiot 😉 Also, your credit card company will have a receipt of this transaction and you may be able to write it off on your taxes. Ask your accountant.

There will be around 200 updated meters installed around Downtown San Diego which is around 97%. They will start the installation in the Gaslamp District and then move to other areas of town. The original polls will be kept to help with costs and conserve the current ground structures. The cost of these meters is $3.8 million and installation will begin next week.

These new meters provide data for the city to use optimize how they use each meter. I hear you might also be able to pay these meters by your mobile phone so you might be able to add more into your meter in case you can’t get to your meter in time. I think this is a great idea!!
